WORLD HUNGER*

ELCA World Hunger

Pastor Peterson is the chair of major Task Force of the Stewardship Resource Team of the Southwest Texas Synod.  The Task Force focuses on the ELCA World Hunger* Appeal. Task Force members work in a variety of areas to keep hunger issues before the people of this synod:

·   Work with congregational hunger advocates to get information out on hunger programs and concerns

·   Meet with congregations and clusters of congregations for hunger presentations

·   Distribute educational resources and videos on the ELCA Hunger Appeal

·   Distribute a periodic email newsletter to all hunger advocates/Contact:: persons

·   Encourage congregations to be involved with Stand With Africa, a three-year, second mile giving program to combat AIDS and hunger

·   A recent synod wide project for World Hunger which raised $116,000.

Hunger Coin Bank"Living Simply With God: A 40-Day Hunger Calendar"* shows how you can live a joyous and abundant life, filled with generosity towards others. It works well with families with children and offers people of all ages opportunities to pray, discuss, read, count, write, and give money to help hungry people around the world.

Did you know that 10% of your gifts to the ELCA World Hunger Appeal go to projects in the U.S.?  Drought, flooding, area fires, tornadoes, hurricanes and crop failures brought on by extremely wet conditions all contribute to increased use of programs that assist in feeding the hungry.

With shopping season soon upon us, it's time to plan on making gifts count. Among the ways to do that are purchasing from fair trade resources, such as the Lutheran World Relief Handcraft Project*, or buying from other online sources*, but going through organizations that work with popular online shopping merchants, so that when you shop online a portion of your purchase goes to the World Hunger Appeal. Make each gift you give this year count twice!
