As a
representative of the Evangelism committee, I am here to talk
about a new congregational project we would like to initiate.
Other committee members are Charlotte Riha, Lorain Glawe and
Jean Inman.
Before discussing our
project, I'd like to speak about the concept of Evangelism.
"Many think of evangelism as something Christians do to
non-Christians. Many think that evangelization only takes place
for a limited time, and ends when people come to believe in
Jesus or start going to church. But this is only part of the
story. Evangelization continues and helps people grow in faith
in Jesus Christ." This quote comes from "Me, an Evangelist" by
William J. McKay.
To accomplish the goal of
helping people to grow in faith, we would like for all to pray
for one another so that our growth and maturity in Christ will
equip us to help others to grow in Christ.
We have entitled our
project "A Prayer Connection". We hope to connect our church
family by prayer. Individuals praying for another specific
person. Why not pray for ourselves? Because praying for your
fellow member may strengthen our bonds as a congregation.
This is the way it will
work. In my basket I have cards with one name on each card. We
encourage each member to pick out a card as they leave church
today, including children. Then pray for the name on your card
for the next year. Times to pray will be at your discretion --
daily, weekly, at odd times, as often as you feel the need.
Since you will not know the
needs of the person whose name you pull, we suggest you pray for
God's will in their lives. Also you may give thanks for this
person's life and their involvement in our church. These are
examples and by no means something you need to follow. You may
be much more creative than we are.
We recommend putting this
attractive card someplace where you will see it, such as, on
your refrigerator, stuck on your dresser mirror, etc.
Your involvement in this
project is optional, but we encourage you to participate. If
one of your family members is not here today, please take a card
for them also.
